Up from the Swamp

We prefer the mindless things
Verse that soothes – not mountain springs.
Nothing may be freshly wrought,
Just stay calm with cliched thought.

Life keeps its ragged edges,
Past false and hollow pledges,
Through thorns and swampy sedges,
Climb high to sunlit ledges.

The W3 #226 challenge via The Skeptic’s Kaddish: Write a tanaga inspired by the theme “Life and Wisdom.” Explore the lessons we learn from living, the choices we make, and the experiences that shape us. Follow these guidelines:

  • Write exactly four lines.
  • Use seven syllables in each line.
  • Follow an AAAA rhyme scheme. Modern variations such as ABAB or AABB are also welcome.
  • Traditionally, tanagas are untitled, allowing the poem to speak for itself.

Comment. Your thoughts welcome.
