RattleBag and Rhubarb

Intersectional Lunacy and Knee-Jerk Nonsense

A bunch of angry shouty men showed up to protest the Standing for Women  Let Women Speak event in Leeds as is their wont when women gather anywhere to talk about their lives.

Inspired by the barbarism of Hamas, this particular crew had a new mantra to add to their mindless repertoire of bleats :

“From the river to the sea, Yorkshire will be fascist free”

This would presumably be a  zone between the River Aire and the North Sea with fascists free to roam elsewhere. Meanwhile, the actual “fascists” in question – women – were gathered in Park Square to share their stories.

This latest piece of intersectional batshittery is on a par with the marchers who carry signs like Zionism is White Supremacy, Gays for Gaza,  and Queers for Palestine.  This reality-free, off-the-shelf activism sees everything through a mash-up of critical race and gender identity theories. These ideologies escaped from the ivory towers of American academia where they were hatched in the late C20th.  Over the last decade, they have spread like a virulent virus to infect the world and may now be seen wherever protesters gather to wave flags, carry signs and shout slogans.

Forget that most  Israelis are not white Europeans. Or colonialists. Ignore the fact that same-sex sexual activity is illegal in Gaza, carries a 10-year prison sentence and homosexuality is largely taboo.  And certainly choose to stay ignorant of the fact that the women who speak at these events come from across the spectrum of politics, race, and class.

The intersectional “feminists’ who engage in these kinds of demonstrations certainly have to turn a blind eye to the repressive patriarchy of Hamas and most astonishingly find a way to justify the October 7th atrocities that targeted women, children, and the elderly in the most barbaric way.

And certainly, ignore that gender identity is a deeply misogynistic ideology that tells women they’re better off as men and men that they can be better women than women. ( Admiral Levine named as one of USA Today’s Women of the Year in 2022.)

The organizer of the Leeds event – the women’s rights campaigner Kellie-J. Keen had the right idea. She told those planning to attend to leave their other politics at home and carry no flags and banners other than suffragists’ colors and her brand of be-the-billboard clothing and merchandise.

Various TwitterX accounts reported on the event:

Meanwhile, here are posters from the 1930s depicting holiday-makers driving fascists off the sea coast of Yorkshire at Bridlington. It’s quicker by rail.

  1. Thanks for this. I despair at what TRAs, Hamas apologists and similar do and think. I am afraid there’s no cure. They have been brainwashed at too early an age and have no idea of what critical thinking (as opposed to ‘critical (race) theory’ might be. And you’ve taught me a new word: ‘batshittery’. Excellent!

  2. I confess to being permanently confused about what people are for or against. I’ve given up trying to figure it out. As far as I am concerned anyone can do anything at all they like as long as they don’t force it on an other unwilling participant. We need to go back to an age where things had to be done by people rather than computers, which kept everyone busily occupied and social media was just a nightmare.

  3. And that even though we have begun to enter the period of unmasking the masculine perception of reality, historically ingrained in our use of languages and practised through our cultural mores. However, we may want to avoid making optimistic predictions about the outcome.

  4. Todays BBC News site carries an item about a museum reclassifying a Roman Emperor as a trans woman, not a man. The confidence with which they made that decision far exceeds any evidence. Angry, shouty seems about right there too. It’s proof, they claim, that pronoun fluidity had been around for thousands of years. Is there no end to this👨‍🦳

    1. That’s a crazy stoty. Retro-transing the Romans has to be a new low. The lies and distortions are shocking.. I don’t know the answer to your question but I fear a lot of people and institutions are going to be damaged along the way. It’s a contagion, a form of collective mania and delusion.

  5. Unfortunately, your blog is one of several I follow on which “Like” doesn’t take, which is frustrating when I have no words to add to what you say in your post and would like to just “Like” it….which I do.

  6. Yes – Matthew Hopkins. Lovely chap
In terms of Bridlington, I would suggest the addition of “bracing”!
And as for cats being AI, I think you are definitely onto something.

  7. Cats might be Ai..anyone thought of that? In a world where people seem to believe anything is possible, why not?
Oh, i forgot, Matthew Hopkins..usually history repeats. Bridlington looks sunny and attractive..but is it?
