Spring

Last weekend we lost an hour and gained the Spring.

brueghel

This particular  Spring is by Pieter Brueghel the Younger, Flemish (ca. 1564 – ca. 1638) It hangs in the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center at Vassar College

Look at that activity! Those raised beds!

This picture is about to be the focus of an exciting interdisciplinary Lower School project.

Take One Picture is the name of an educational venture launched by the National Gallery in London. It is a country-wide thematic study for children in primary schools in Great Britain. Take a look at some of the remarkable work it has led to in schools across the UK. Each year a painting from the Gallery’s permanent collection is selected to inspire cross-curricular work in primary classes throughout the country. Mary Ellen discovered this project quite accidentally last June while visiting London.

Our cooperating museum is the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center at Vassar College. In October lower school teachers visited the center for the purpose of selecting a painting to use in the project. They selected Spring.

Mary Ellen writes:
“We are very excited about the prospect of having everyone in the lower school work on this inter-disciplinary project. Classroom teachers and specialists are eager to share ideas and work together. We all have a common choice time scheduled on Friday afternoons and some of the work will take place during that time.”

Stay tuned.
